Kim and I are both in recovery, so I want to take a moment to discuss what we learned during this trip so far. Cons: We are all three controllers and would make good office managers and tour guides. When my PTSD gets triggered I try to take over until I feel safe. I am judgmental when it comes to things that annoy me. I am to cynical about how much everything costs. Sunburn. People show no deference to senior citizens who are disabled. I think this will be my last great adventure. Pros: None of us hold resentments. We do a tenth step and then move on very quickly. Shirley is very generous. David is very generous. Boris, our waiter, was great. Our tour guide Doug was very nice. The hotel was wonderful. I realized I lived right across the day from a lovely city. Uber was really fast. Everything we did was so wonderful. I now have memories that will last me a life time. Attachments:

I have rested at home for three days, and I am ready to go back to San Francisco to spend more time with Kim and David. Tomorrow I am going to take the bus early in the morning and then we are all going to the San Francisco Zoo. I have not been there since I was ten years old . . . around 62 years ago. I am sure there are a lot of changes. Nerves are getting frayed because it is the Fourth of July weekend and all the tours to Alcatraz are booked. Kim and David are from another country and did not realize this was a holiday weekend. But all will be well. We all make up easily after disagreements. Attachments:

While I was home resting Shirley and Stuart went downtown to Union Square. They found the Cheesecake Factory and bought me some strawberry cheesecake. I have foregone my diet during my great adventure. Shirley also bought an oyster and found a pearl. They made it into a necklace. It was beautiful.
Shirley and Stuart then went down to Pier 39 to see the seals.
On Saturday I took the bus over to San Francisco and we all went to the zoo. I have not been there since I was ten years old. Shirley and I rented scooters and had a great time touring the zoom. Unfortunately, it was cold, and all of the animals were in their caves, but we did get to see the giraffes, bears and gorillas. We had a wonderful time and then took the Uber home.
On Sunday we took the cable car to Union Square, and Shirley bought me some leggings. She said I dressed like an old lady. So, I acquiesced and put the leggings on. I was self-conscious but looked twenty years younger. Felt great. Thank you, Shirley, for looking after me.
We took a tour bus back to the hotel and then I went home. We were all exhausted. Before I got on the bus, we all went down to the hotel's restaurant and chatted with our favorite restaurant waiter Boris. The waiter had become a great friend. Best service I ever had in a restaurant. I was finally adjusting to restaurants having loud music in the background. I still don't understand it but getting used to it.
Today is the Fourth of July and we are all sleeping in. Tomorrow we will meet at the famous Claremont Hotel in Berkeley and going for a golf cart tour of the UC campus. I can' wait.
Wednesday we are going to Alcatraz Island which is another dream come true. This will be our last day together. I am already getting sad.

On Saturday we went to the San Francisco Zoo by the beach. Shirley rented us a scooter, so we were able to see all the animals. It was cold so most of the animals were in their caves, but we got to see a gorilla, two bears, a snow leopard, penguins and lots of birds. The penguins were being fed and that was exciting. On Sunday we took the cable car to downtown San Francico which was great. We keep meeting people from all over the world who speak English very well. We had a decadent dessert at the Cheesecake Factory and then took Uber back to the hotel. On Monday I gave me friends a break and I stayed home. They went out to dinner and then watched the Fourth of July fireworks. On Tuesday I met Shirley and Stuart at the Claremont Hotel and they bought me lunch. Then we got a ride down to the Visitors Center and took a golf cart tour. It was great seeing all the buildings where I used to study. Everything was modern. The Undergraduate Library did not have any books. This astounded me. It is all technology noe. The Bancroft Library where I did my senior thesis on slavery in California did still have books . . . that God. I can't wrap my mind around a library without books LOL. On Wednesday we went to Alcatraz. I found it depressing, but Shirley and Stuart had a great time. When we got back, we went up to Ghirardelli Square where we had a rich ice cream sundae. I think I have put on about 5 pounds over the last two weeks. LOL When we got back to the hotel, Shirley and I went swimming. I love the water and the hot tub. To end the day Stuart put me in an Uber and I went home to begin to ruminate about my great adventure. As I write this, I am in my first day of withdrawal. Shirley and Stuart are on a plane back to Scotland. I am trying to think of words to express how grateful I am to them for treating me to the most wonderful time of my life. At this point, all I can think of is "Thank you and God bless you both." Susan Peabody Attachments:
