Misery

Of course you have choices. You can CHOOSE to be optimistic and this will make you happy. Abraham Lincoln said, "You are as happy as you want to be." I was in the same situation you are in at on time. I was either miserable or elated. Turned out I was bi-polar. Eventually, I found the middle ground. Today I fell a variety of emotions. I got depressed when my husband died. I got elated when I found God. The rest of the time I am content with my life. I made a decision to be content. They say in AA, "act as if," or "fake it till you make it." These really work. If you let yourself stay miserable for too long, you will end up getting addicted to misery and then self-pity. That is where I was when I got sober in 1982. Then I turned my life and will over to the care of God and I have been content since then to go with the flow.
The mind is a powerful tool. Make up your mind to be happy and it will become a self-fulling prophecy. Ask God for help. Take a leap of faith. Take action. Do something . . . (I love cliches).
